Pet content. Formats, not moments.

What dogs and cats did on social this week, read as repeatable formats: the template a creator can actually copy, who is already copying it, and whether it is still climbing or already everywhere.

Headline read
The week’s most-copied pet format is not a pet video at all — it is a sticker. The orange dancing dog overlay ran across fourteen separate accounts, from a corgi page to a games brand, on backgrounds that had nothing to do with animals.

Six formats a brand could run this week.

Each one is a template with a working mechanic, several live examples to study, and the single biggest post it produced. Every handle links to the actual video.

What creators are copying right now.

The "there he go" dancing-pet overlay
At scale
A creator films any ordinary background — a subway seat, a waterfall, a wall, a sunset — then drops the hand-drawn orange dancing dog (or a cowboy-hat kitten) sticker onto it with a CapCut template, cut to Steve Lacy. The joke is the mismatch between the mundane plate and the animated animal, and the caption is almost always the same three words. It is the single most copied pet format of the week and the template travels far outside pet accounts: a games brand ran it too.

iPhone 18 pet parody skits
Emerging
Creators bolt their pet onto the launch cycle: the cat is unboxed as the "iCat 18 DUO Pro Max", the dog walks into an Apple store to trade itself in, a kitten gets a mock keynote. Low production, instant topicality, and a hashtag with its own search demand. Reach is modest per post but the format is spreading fast across small accounts.

AI cat dialogue and story channels
At scale
Fully synthetic cats acting out human scenarios — office burnout, a kitten teased over a cardboard toy car, two cats arguing. These are not filters over real footage; they are generated characters running as episodic series, and several accounts post daily. The comment sections treat them like soap operas.

First-person pet POV
Emerging
A camera on the collar or at floor height, shot low and shaky so the viewer gets the animal’s eyeline, with internal-monologue text over the top. Two sub-formats are pulling apart: short comedic POV on TikTok, and long ambient "cat market" walk-throughs on YouTube that function as background video. A hardware brand has already colonised it as a product demo.

Reaction tests: sound, taste, comprehension
At scale
Give the animal one stimulus on camera and hold the shot for the face: sparkling water, a food it has never met, a sentence in plain English, a specific frequency. The payoff is a single legible expression, which is why it clips well and why the format never really leaves the For You page.

Comment-bait selection polls
Emerging
Several pets are lined up, each given a one-word personality, and the audience is asked to commit to a favourite in the comments. The mechanic is engagement design rather than comedy — disagreement in the replies is the point. The variants are already forking: a partner picking on camera, a "choose your fighter" grid, a five-dollar build-a-cat budget, and a veterinarian running a straight breed bracket.

From signal to next move

Want the live feed, not the snapshot?

This page is a snapshot of one week in one category. dig reads the same signal continuously — formats as they form, the creators carrying them, and the moment a template starts to cool.

Method: captured from dig across TikTok and YouTube, United States, 10–17 September 2026. View counts are as recorded at capture and will have moved since. Formats are grouped by mechanic, not by hashtag. Instagram is outside this capture’s coverage. Every example links to its source video.
